Each of our Raleigh/ Durham ready mix locations has a monthly safety meeting with a predetermined topic. Salaried employees perform a minimum of 2 safety observations a month. Our team has daily calls to discuss production for the following day with Dispatch, Sales, QA, Operations, and Plant Managers. During those calls any big safety issues are concerns are brought up and open for discussion.

Reduced Energy Use

A responsible use of our natural resources and energy are vital aspects of our sustainability initiative.

  • Several plants have large windows in the batch houses and we ask the plant managers to only cut the lights on when natural lighting is not enough
  • Trucks without concrete in them are supposed to be cut off when idling on the plant yard for more than 5 minutes
  • Where we could drill down and find water, we have plants using well water so that we do not have to use city water

Recycle

Returned Concrete is an ongoing issue we must deal with. Extra concrete is returned from jobs every day and has to be dealt with in some fashion. We try our best to treat the concrete with a stabilizing admixture and resell it. If that cannot be done, we put it in block forms. The blocks can be sold as customers need them or used at our plants to make bins. Our Raleigh/Durham team does their best to make sure nothing goes to waste.

Thru September, our team has

  • Resold 1463 yards of concrete at a revenue of $172,639.93
  • Made 781 blocks and sold 430 at a revenue of $15,155.00
  • Sold 158 tons of waste/pit material at a revenue of $1470.00

Total resold thru September is $189,264.93 which equates to $.92/cyd for the year. }

Ongoing Projects

Our Raleigh/Durham team is proud to be able to play a part in several projects that will work to help better the community they serve.

Glenaire Retirement

Glenaire retirement community is a project we are a part of in Cary, NC. It will offer 192 independent apartments and 37 assisted living units to seniors in our community. The expansion buildings house a multitude of functions, including a wellness center that contains a sports court, two fitness rooms, elevated track, spa and therapy room, classrooms and more. It is 25,000 yards of 3000 psi concrete with 4 lbs of Mac 360 fiber. We are working with Lithko Contracting on this project.

Legacy Heritage

Legacy Heritage is a project we are doing out of our Wake Forest Capital Blvd location. It will offer both townhomes and apartments, 3 story clubhouse with rooftop amenities, basketball court, and a golf simulator. It is 12,000 yards of primarily 4000psi. We are working with KD Construction of Florida on this project.
