The Mayor and City Council of Martinsburg, West Virginia thanks Argos USA, LLC (Argos) and CSX for donating the Frog Hollow Rail Spur to the City. Argos and CSX Transportation, LLC, who owned the Frog Hollow Rail Spur, have generously donated the Frog Hollow Spur to the City of Martinsburg. After accepting the deeds, City Council immediately entered into a contract with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. to design and engineer the Frog Hollow trail for possible construction later this summer. The city’s ultimate goal is to construct a new multi-modal recreational trail to connect downtown Martinsburg to the existing Route 9 trail to the south and the proposed Creekside Trail Plan to the north and west to Oats dale Park.

The Frog Hollow Spur is over 1-mile long, traversing through the downtown core of Martinsburg. The trail will also incorporate the former B&O rail bridge over Route 9, connecting future residential and commercial development on the south side of Route 9, connecting future high-density, mixed-use development with downtown Martinsburg.

The Frog Hollow Rail Spur was constructed in the 1880s from the Martinsburg Train Station / Roundhouse Complex to the Standard Lime and Stone Company south of Martinsburg. The spur remained operational for approximately 140 years, serving the industry in and around Martinsburg City until the rails were removed in 2021.
