We had an outstanding turnout for the first organization-wide “Take Pride” competition, with entries from across our footprint. This competition was designed to foster a culture of commitment and integrity, reflecting the company’s responsible growth strategy and encouraging a continuous improvement mindset.
To participate, teams analyzed practical ways they could improve their facilities in order to increase functionality and overall morale of their teams. Judges evaluated site improvements and conditions (cleanliness), their safety and employee retention efforts and had conversations with the teams about the cultures observed at each of the facilities.
After careful consideration, we are excited to announce the winners:
Florida
The team at our Daytona Plant takes ownership of the upkeep and maintenance of their facility, implementing best practices to keep operations running smoothly. The result of this culture of ownership is a very clean and well-maintained facility, which leads to a safer workplace and a team that is proud to come to work each day.
Georgia
Tie! Glenwood Plant Team
The office personnel and drivers at our Glenwood plant came together to improve the facility, creating a cleaner environment and a place where people can enjoy working. Since then, the team has taken great pride in maintaining the facility and has kept up regular maintenance.
Marrietta Plant Team
The Marrietta team chose a few high-impact projects that would help increase safety and make their facility a place they can take pride in. To increase visibility in the yard, the team applied a fresh coat of bright yellow paint to their truck parking spaces, material storage bins and fueling area. Additionally, the team made small renovations to their batch house and restroom areas.
Carolinas
Tie!
Denver Plant Team
At our Denver plant, the drivers took it upon themselves to remodel the driver’s room, outfitting it with some new furniture and decorations to make it more inviting for their team. They are also working on continuing to improve their operations by organizing their materials, deep cleaning their facility and equipment and have installed a new recycled water line to the plant.
Durham Plant Team

Our Durham plan secured a 100% retention rate for the year, primarily due to the culture its plant manager, Reggie Lundsford, has built and established with his team. This team exemplifies the cohesiveness and camaraderie we would like to cultivate across all of our Ready-Mix divisions. They work together to keep the facility and their trucks clean and operating while being one of the busiest plants in the area.
Houston
Holmes Road Plant Team
The Holmes Road team has completed several improvements in key areas of the plant. On the yard, they paved the remaining production areas to reduce dusting and improved their outfall building to exceed county standards. In their batch house, they improved their restrooms, repaired the AC drainage and renovated the driver’s room with new paint and new flooring.
Non-plant Winner
Cumming Testing Lab
Our Cumming Lab in Georgia is working to improve safety and operational efficiency through several impactful projects. The team went through their facility and organized their product and tool storage, ensuring everything was easily accessible and in its place. They also took the time to repaint all the safety lines and exterior doors in order to increase visibility. Additionally, they made several improvements to their Quality Assurance Technicians office with new office furniture and a fresh coat of paint.
The «Take Pride» competition is not just a one-time event but a reminder of the ongoing commitment we have toward creating a positive and thriving work culture. So, as we move forward, let’s collectively embrace the spirit of responsibility, integrity, and continuous improvement. Let’s take pride in our workplaces, inspire one another, and make our facilities the best they can be.
