This month, we are proud to recognize Andy Wellborn, plant manager of our Daytona Ready-Mix facility. He is being recognized by James Zullo, Safety Manager in Florida, for his above-and-beyond performance and strong advocacy for our culture of safety.
We asked Andy a few questions about his experiences at Argos to get to know him better.
- How long have you been in the Ready-Mix industry, and when did you join Argos?
I have been in the ready-mix industry for close to 30 years, and I celebrated my 9th year with Argos back in February. I started out as a driver and worked my way up from there. I was interested in doing and learning more. I am someone who needs a challenge.
- How did you become a plant manager?
Scott Hossenlop, the Florida Division Manager at the time, came by, and I told him, “It’s my goal to run a plant for you somewhere in the state of Florida.” And that conversation is how I got to where I am. You have to put what you want out there. If you don’t, nobody is going to know. I don’t know what the future holds, but I am really happy, and I have a great plant, got a good group here. But I will always want to learn more and do more.
- What do you enjoy most about your job as plant manager?
As a plant manager, I am most proud of the condition and appearance of the plant, but also the team that we have here. It takes a while to develop a team, and we have a good group of guys here. I love to train people.
- Why do you think you are a successful plant manager?
I am someone who is company-oriented, and I want to do whatever it takes to make Argos successful. I help where I am needed at other plants nearby when someone is on vacation or if a plant is short-staffed.
