The premise was a breakout Q&A session with the ELITE Team as the panel. The panel discussion was around the Roberta’s ELITE Team Behavior Based Safety Program that is led by our front line (hourly employees). The maturation of the program over the years. Moreover, the positive impact that the ELITE Team has had on the safety culture of the Roberta Plant. How the program is structured and executed.

Key Features Of Observations And Conversations:

  • Voluntary

ü Everyone trained but it is voluntary to conduct an observation

ü This results in increased quality – no pencil whipping

  • Discipline Free

ü There is no discipline because employees will not volunteer if there is discipline

  • Anonymous

ü Only name on the checklist is the observer

ü This increases buy-in

All data from the observations is collected and analyzed once per month by the ELITE Team. They review the data and create action plans to improve unsafe behaviors and/or unsafe conditions. In order to be considered participated; a minimum of four observations per employee has to be executed and documented. Positive peer to peer safety observations.

The ELITE Team members who participated:

  • Johnny “Clint” King – Operator II (Production)
  • Robert Smith – Utility Operator (ASF)
  • Hoyt Murphy – Maintenance IV (Mobile Maintenance)
  • William “Andrew” Conway – Operator I (Quarry)
  • Michael Rachels – Maintenance V (1st Level Inspector)
