Project Bullseye provided Argos with an exciting opportunity to combine our ready-mix expertise and PNA’s patented Thin Concrete Pavement (TCP) design. Argos worked directly with TAS as the turnkey concrete contractor on an opportunity in which Arch-Con was the general contractor on site. The project itself is a 657,600-square-foot, rapid distribution center within National Property Holdings’ 157-acre Republic Business Center. The building has a 36-foot clear height and 223 standard 9×10 overhead doors located in Houston’s northwest distribution submarket. Project Bullseye features a 30,000-square-foot office buildout and 54-acres of paving.
It is estimated that the TCP design for Bullseye saved an estimated $2.4 million in construction costs on this project alone. The fiber allows for easier pouring and placement of the concrete by TAS’s forming crews. In addition to the cost savings there are added safety concerns (trip hazards, sharp objects, etc.) that are mitigated during the placement by removing rebar during the forming process. Overall strength of the concrete is also increased while minimizing the impact of the additional concrete (or cementitious material) that would be required on a standard paving design.
Argos executed this opportunity as the primary ready-mix supplier using two batch plants, Jersey Village and Tomball, located within a 5-mile radius of the project site. In total these plants were able to successfully produce and batch 57,000 cubic yards of concrete. This amount of work at Bullseye was conducted over a period of one year starting in February of 2022 and estimated to be complete by the end of March 2022.
