Houston RMX hosted the first-ever Driver Trainer Re-Ignite Training session from 25-27 April 2022. Thirteen Driver Trainers were invited to participate.
Argos Driver Trainer Re-Ignite training program is a one-in-a-kind program that promotes development using a Train-the-Trainer and Team Building methodology. All Argos Driver Trainers are considered Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
The Program came about through evaluations of the 2021 3rd and 4th Qtr Incident Database and Mock DOT Inspections, property damage and lack of pre-post trip inspections.
Houston was slated to develop a training program for their Driver Trainers using this information. Our safety team decided that the Driver Trainers need support preparing the New Hires for success.
In January 2022, the need for soft skills was introduced in the annual Safety Meeting with the Safety Department. With Re-Ignite, each Driver Trainer trains each other.
Day 1, they all have to complete a full Pre-Trip Inspection, properly display the use of 3 Points of Contact correctly, Chute Extension Lifting and Handling and properly fill out a Daily Truck Log sheet. Each Driver Trainer explains and demonstrates each step they follow to complete each event while being recorded. Upon completion, each Driver Trainer is evaluated and critiqued by their peers based on the field observations and recorded events review and findings.
Results: They all agreed to have a Driver Trainer develop a Standard Operating Procedure for all to follow and train everyone the same way on:
- Pre-Trip Inspection
- Daily Log Book Sheet

Day 2 is Driver Instructor Lead; The Driver Trainers were introduced to Soft Skills development (Adult Learning Theory, Learning Styles and Note Taking Styles) and Risk Assessment Training to help them develop their teaching skills and learn new ways to reach drivers.
Lead by:
Troy Reed – Houston Safety Manager
Randy Davis – Georgia Safety Manager
Chris Jackson – Houston Driver Instructor
Tony Ocasio – Florida Driver Instructor
