Environmental:
The Newberry plant has supported the Lubee Bat Conservancy for the past several years. The Lubee Bat conservancy is a non-profit dedicated to saving bats and their habitats through conservation, research, and education, with a focus on children and community engagement.
The Plant has received a Wildlife habitat certification for its Bat Roost Project in which the plant provides habitat for the bats in the area. The objective of the bat houses is to protect these mammals. Bats manage insect populations, and this natural form of pest control contributes to the overall welfare of the environment. In addition, bats pollinate and disperse seeds for fruit trees.
Community:
At Argos, one of our main goals for our sustainability initiatives is to work toward improving our environment to help ensure a better world for future generations. However, we can’t do it alone. That is why we must work with students getting ready to enter the field and teach them the importance of a sustainable future.
Our Newberry cement plant has a close relationship with the University of Florida and its Environmental Engineering Sciences Department. Every year the plant provides a tour and presentations to engineering students to discuss environmental-related aspects of cement manufacture and to allow students to observe pollution-control and emission-measuring equipment in use.
By showing and explaining our current initiatives in pollution control, we are providing a platform for these future leaders to expand upon and continue our commitment to sustainability.
