Argos Fiber Reinforced Concrete is a perfect solution for projects that demand an additional level of strength and durability. Different types of fibers depending on clients needs could be provided with a good confidence to keep cracks tightly closed. This course will guide you through Argos’s Fiber Reinforced Concrete solution, explaining all the applications and benefits of including uniformly dispersed fibers on concrete looking for a better structural integrity.

There are four levels of reinforcement for fibers.

Level 1 is a microsynthetic monofilament fiber used only for plastic shrinkage cracking.

Level 2 is a fibrillated microsynthetic fiber that is able to replace the smallest of welded wire reinforcement such as 6×6 W1.4xW1.4.

Level 3 and 4 are partial to complete replacement of secondary reinforcement including some #3 and #4 rebar.

Monofilament fibers

Definition – Monofilament fibers are a high-tensile strength, high modulus of elasticity, ultra-thin monofilament homopolymer polypropylene micro synthetic Fiber.

How It Works – Transforms macro-cracks into micro-cracks reducing concrete permeability, thus increasing the

durability service life of the concrete, and reducing maintenance.

Additional Characteristics – These concrete fiber additives quickly distribute uniformly throughout the concrete matrix, effectively controlling plastic shrinkage cracking.

Fibrillated Fiber

Definition – Fibrillated polypropylene fibers are a unique technology that creates additional micro fibrils that are attached to the principle fibrillated network.

How It Works – Modifies macro-cracking and micro-cracking mechanisms, inhibiting and controlling the formation of plastic and drying shrinkage cracking in concrete.

Additional Characteristics – These additional anchorage sites provide increased bonding between the mortar matrix and the fiber network and enhance the performance of fibrillated microfibers as a shrinkage and temperature (secondary) reinforcement.

Macrofiber

Definition – Macrofiber concrete reinforcement is achieved by adding macrofibers with superior bonding properties to the concrete matrix. The result is crack control and an extended service life of the concrete. Synthetic macrofibers are manufactured from a proprietary blend of polypropylene resins

How It Works – Macrofibers can be used as a replacement for crack control mesh or as structural reinforcement in concrete or shotcrete. Macro fibers are used where an increase in residual (post-cracking) flexural strength is required.

Additional Characteristics – They are specifically engineered for use as shrinkage and temperature (secondary) reinforcement and provide excellent plastic shrinkage control and reduced settlement cracking.
