During the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States saw a significant increase in construction and infrastructure projects due to its essential nature. At the same time, the movie theater industry was forced to close and saw one of its worst years to date. That is why we were pleasantly surprised when we were asked to provide concrete for a 14 Screen, 55,380 sq. ft. Cinemark theater in Jacksonville, FL during the height of the pandemic.

Cinemark had big dreams for its new theater. Construction for this project was supposed to begin in March of 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic quickly took over, and the project was put on hold. With the current state of the movie theater industry, many thought the project would never finish or take a few more years to get started again. Cinemark was determined and began construction again a year ago in October. For our part, we are going to be producing around 5,000 cubic yards of type IL concrete. We used a special fly ash blend on this project to create low carbon, environmentally friendly product.

This project represents the belief that there will be a post pandemic world, and we are proud to provide them with the concrete solutions that support them in their belief while also working to ensure that future is sustainable. Together with our customers, we are working to create a new normal after the year of uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
